Today’s prayer is offered by Chris Rojas.

Dear Church Family,

As we continue to take shelter and start seeing our local economies attempt to open, I’d like to share a few thoughts with you and a prayer.

Remember that you can give tithe and offering via our church website. Go to sloadventist.org, click on Homepage, then click on GIVE under the MENU option. Or click here.

If you need any help navigating our website for tithe or any resource on there, please reach out to myself or Monica Yeo. We are happy to point you in the right direction and listen to your suggestions.

It’s Mother’s Day tomorrow, Sunday May 9th. If you happen to be taking shelter with mom, remember to give her a big hug and remind her how much you love her. If mom is far away and you are not able to see her due to our current situation, try to contact her via phone or video conference. COVID-19 is a reminder that life can be delicate. So, let’s seize the day and enjoy life with mom.

To all the moms; Thank you for all you do for us; nurturing us, cleaning after us, helping us grow, helping us go our own way in life. Do not doubt how much we treasure you.

I’d like to share this prayer with you all…

Dear God,

There’s so much to talk to you about these days. Things have been different lately. Bizarre, in fact. There’s uncertainty and confusion in the air. But amid all that there’s also things we are thankful for. So, we come to you to share what’s in our hearts and minds on this Sabbath morning.

We thank you for our mothers. It’s likely many of us are not able to see them in person, but we thank you for them just as much. We ask that you bless them many times over the number of times they bless us daily.

God, it’s now been about two months since we’ve been taking shelter during the spread of this virus.

Some people have lost their jobs, and with those jobs, their primary source of income. We ask that you provide in this time of need. And we also ask that you open our eyes, us who can help, so we can seize the opportunity to help those in need.

Others have fallen sick to this virus and are fighting to get better. Jolene Brighten and her family come to mind. Your ways are mysterious, but we sure feel like your heeling hand would be timely right about now.

We lift the families to you that have lost a family member from this virus.

Also, we don’t forget the brave efforts of our medical professionals putting themselves at risk on the front lines of this fight. We thank you for them and the critical service they are providing. We ask that you continue to fuel them with courage, focus, and safety.

There are people too working hard to bring back the economies of cities and states back to more a more normal state. We ask that you bring focus and clarity to their planning process.

God, only you know why these things happen. We just ask that you bring us through it stronger and with a positive outlook toward one another.

And finally, I’d like to ask for a special favor. That you be with the family of Ahmaud Arbery. They are going to need peace and strength during this time of loss. It’s so upsetting that we continue to see actions of hatred toward our African American brothers and sisters. It’s difficult to do so, but I also pray for the individuals responsible for this crime. There’s so much help we need in this aspect of our society, God.

Help us.

These things we pray with faith,

Amen.

Conversations

Pastor Chris and former SLO pastor Stephen Eastwood meet for the first time online with an in-depth, energetic look at a favorite passage in the Bible. Their fresh dialogue opens up new ideas for approaching Scripture, God, and life--forever and now.
